Are you a pioneering dance researcher or practitioner with a focus on international exchange and impact? Share your talent and research with the Fulbright community at FACON26 in Washington, DC. Applications for the 2026 Selma Jeanne Cohen Dance Lecture will be accepted through August 8. The awardee will be notified by August 25.
The Selma Jeanne Cohen Fund for International Scholarship on Dance provides a dance researcher or practitioner the opportunity to present a major paper or interdisciplinary presentation at the Fulbright Association’s annual conference. The award is based on guidelines by the late Dr. Selma Jeanne Cohen, dance historian and founding editor of the International Encyclopedia of Dance. Interdisciplinary dance scholars are encouraged to apply.

About the Selma Jeanne Cohen Dance Scholarship
- Open to all dance researchers or practitioners in any field of dance.
- Applicants may be residents of any country.
- Lectures can be based on unpublished or published work, preferably not previously presented.
- Selection criteria: quality, originality, international impact, interdisciplinarity, audience interaction, and references.
- Honorarium provided to the selected scholar.
- Awardee must present at the Fulbright Association Annual Conference on Saturday, October 24.
Application Guidelines
All applications must include:
- A cover letter (max 1 page) describing your proposal.
- A resume or CV.
- A narrative (max 10 double-spaced pages or 3,750 words) describing your research/project and its international significance.
- Include how your Fulbright/international experience influenced your work.
- A presentation outline for a 1-hour session:
- 15-minute lecture
- 10–15-minute dance demonstration
- 10–15-minute Q&A
- Audience engagement is highly valued.
- Two letters of reference.
